Modern Arnis Stick Ano Isa
As a Two Person Form

Mabuhay!

One of the aspects of the late Professor Presas' Modern Arnis was the Ano (pronounced "on-yo") otherwise known in the martial arts as forms or kata. These are short prearanged sequences done both open handed and with the stick. There are 4 Anos with the stick and 6 with the empty hand that we teach today, for our students who wish to learn them. They are not a general requirement in our Arnis program, but are there for the Modern Arnis affecionado and folks who just like forms.

Professor Presas often made us practice the open hand forms against a group of attackers so we could figure out our own applications and innovations on the movements, but never in the strict manner where there was a "Side A" and a "Side B" to be learned.

Recently, Lily had a moment of brilliance while we were training, and over a break she commented that "It would be fun if the stick forms had a two person version, like some Chinese styles use."

Well, after some thought, Ano Isa seemed ideally suited to a partner application because of its linear nature. So, in short order we created an Ano Isa, Side B.

(Ano Isa its self is demonstrated in Professor's Book from the Phillippines and on his old videos)

Enjoy!
